Air – Conditioned Halls, Push Back Leather Seats, Lush Carpets, Dolby Surround Effect Sound System, Swanky Interiors & Innovative designs is nowadays a key to most of our city dwelling movie maniacs. Multiplexes have been a major factor in bringing back the upper middle class audience to movie theatres. But most of the movie goers above 25 years, must have enjoyed the glorious days of single screen Cinema. My first childhood memory of watching a movie in a movie theatre was way back in late 80s when my parents took me to see Chota Chetan. It was the most exciting thing to do for me at that time, as till date I had watched the movies only on Doordarshan, and thus getting to watch a movie on a huge screen and that too with paper 3D Glasses was awesome. After that for few years my dad took me to watch various hindi movies at our local single screen theatres and thus my passion for cinema was ignited. I loved the intermissions which used to come with a ring of a bell, just like the recess in our school, and that bell inevitably meant that my dad would go and get me a packet of polythene packed soggy yummy popcorn and a Goldspot. The experience of going to a movie was like a weekend trip to Goa for me back then. But my dad wasn’t watching every movie that was released and so had to wait for the next good movie which he would be interested and would pray for an Amitabh Release as he never missed that.

Then Came 1993 and Jurrasic Park (in Hindi) was released in India and every youngster in the country wanted to watch it. I nagged my parents to give me the permission to go ahead and watch a movie in theatre all by myself with my friends. It was the most exciting thing I had ever done till that time. The theatre was 5 kms from our house, and we friends had taken the bus till the hall. There were three of us, and none of us had ever purchased a movie ticket till then and had no idea how to do it or what categories there were to choose from. When we were in front of the ticket windows we had three different choices: Lower Stall 10 Rs. (It was the longest line), Upper Stall 15 Rs. (little less longer line) and Balcony 25 Rs. (pretty small line). We made a quick count of our funds pool, calculating and reserving a fixed sum for the canteen in interval; we decided to go for the upper stall. After waiting in the queue for 20 odd mins I reached the ticket window and asked for three tickets and the ticket window guy refused, saying they have the policy of giving only two tickets to one person to prevent black marketing. I had no idea about what in the world was black marketing and tried to convince the ticket window guy with my innocent face that I am a kid with no intentions of marketing those tickets black or white and showed them my friends waiting nearby, finally convincing the ticket window guy give me my first movie ticket I ever brought. It was a victorious moment for me, because I felt in my quest to secure my first ever movie ticket, I overcome an earth shattering hurdle and thus considered myself street smart for that feat. I admired my hard earned ticket, which was of pink color, Lower Stall Tickets were of Green Color and Balcony Ticket were of luxurious grey color. At that time, the seat numbering system was only in the balcony of our single screen movie hall. Lower and Upper stall tickets were basically on first come first serve basis. Thus resulting in people standing in a huge cue and ready to rush inside as soon as the gates open with the first ring of the bell to get the best possible seats (preferably near the corners under the huge wall mounted fans). We loved the Jurrasic Park in hindi, though we found it very boring for first 20 mins when a weird old man was just talking and talking explaining some weird technology involving frogs and lizard which we didn’t cared, but as soon as the dinosaurs were on the screens we just loved it. With my first ever experience of screaming and whistling in the theatre I was having the time of my life. Then came the sudden interval with a loud ringing of the bell and while going to the canteen we deliberately took the path leading upto to the top most row of the upperstall, as we wanted to peek and see what luxurious adobe was in the balcony section. Back than movie canteens had a charm of its own, with just one flavoured, atleast 4-5 days earlier polythene packed pop corns, Samosas till they last, Cream Rolls, Parle G biscuits, Thums up, Gold Spot, Limca and tea Coffee. There were no fancy burgers, nachos or cheese flavoured popcorns. While eating those pop corns, one of my friends revealed us an amazing fact that his uncle who lives in Bombay (Mumbai) claimed there were movie halls there which had ticket rates of 75-100 Rs. and some were even A/c. However we enjoyed the rest of our movie, especially the climax where the small girl saved the day moving some kinda device on the desk connected to computer, which many years later I came to know is called the mouse, through which I won’t be trapping dinosaurs, but checking the Facebook.

Few months later I had a chance of revisiting the movie hall again with the release of Rangeela and this time I was introduced to a viewer friendly world of ticket black marketing. The movie was house full and we were planning to go back home disappointedly, when a shady looking guy came and asked me “ticket chaiye, balcony ka hai.?” I was overwhelmed that a kind hearted guy was taking pity on us seeing are disappointed faces and offering us his tickets, but lo and behold, he asked 40 Rs. for the balcony ticket. In a second I realized what black marketing was all about and later spent most of my college life trying to spot the guy selling tickets in black as I was always late to reach movie hall. Black marketing people were the life savers for people like us who had this compulsive urge to watch the movie on the day of its release. How much I miss them nowadays in the Multiplexes, when I forget to advance book my tickets and when after reaching the theatre I find all the movies house full. I always wish to spot a kind hearted black marketer lurking in the Air Conditioned alley of PVR or Big Cinema, ready to save the day for me.

Post 1993 the only respectable single screen cinema in our area was rumoured to be being renovated and would now become A/C and I was pretty excited to experience it. The owner had timed the renovated theatre with the release of Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge. Outside the main gate of the theatre the owner had now proudly written: in huge bold letters “Vinay Theatre”, and in little less huge but still bold letters “A/C” and then yet in the third line with small letter which were not bold it was written “Air-Cooled”. Yes our small town theatre had become A/C, which contrary to our expectation was installed with around 10-15 huge Water Coolers and not the Air-Conditioner. However it was still an upgrade and we were proud of it. The theatre even had gone ahead and got rexine cushioned seats for balcony section, and had also come up with two box sections.

Then came 1999, and the first ever Multiplex of Ahmadabad was inaugurated with people loving it, comparison were drawn with the movie theatres of Singapore and America as per their relative’s residing country. My first ever Multiplex movie was “Mann”, though I hated the movie, but I loved the new experience and feel, and also fresh pop corns with masala seasoning. I felt this was life, watching a movie like King. Soon there was a flood of multiplex, each new one making the older multiplexes look like a piece of junk. PVRs, Cinemaxs, Big Cinemas changed our total viewing experience, enabling us to at least console ourselves that Pop corn were tasty and seat was so comfortable that I slept off, while watching Khatta Meetha.

Lost My Comb – End of an Era

I know it will sound weird but I am very sad as I am not able to find my comb today and I think I might have lost if for good. Okay so what’s the big deal about a comb that too being a guy? Well this particular comb surely was a big deal. I had been using it for last 11 years and it has seen through me lots of good and bad times and it was one of the very few constants in my life. In fact I had bought this comb even before I bought my first Motorcycle.

Curiously I bought this comb from Mangalore in June of 1999 when on vacation there with Amit during my B.com days. Never at that time had I thought I will be getting married into the same city 8 years later. In fact till that time I was never particular about my comb and would use any common comb in the house, but during that visit I had lost the comb I was carrying and so we bought this one from a store around 7-8 in the evening so that I don’t look like a freak in the morning and voila that’s the comb I loved to comb my hair for next 11 years. The comb started its journey from Managlore with me and travelled with me back to Ahmedabad. During my Ahmedabad stay the comb saw me bunk classes in B.com for three years and later in C-Dac. It used to come in use not in the morning but in the evening when I used to wake up after staying awake whole night with Rumit at Rythem cyber cafe. Later the comb moved with me to Hyderabad and boy that was one crazy place to be. Hyderabad was the best time and place I ever lived during my students life and when I realized that the comb has managed to stay with me for around 4 years that I decided to stick with it for as long as possible. During my stay in Hyderabad the comb did travelled with me almost all over the India as it was one the essential things I carried on all my rides. Later the same comb was one great support for me during the super depressing and worst days of Delhi and then it accompanied back with me to Gandhidham in 2005. Since then the comb had been with me here and I had been using it each and every day. Priya knows how hysterical I would become if we forget to carry the comb for any trip.

Surprisingly that was the strongest Comb I have ever seen. 11 years of continuous service and till date it had not lost even one of its teeth or was in no way out of shape or anything. But now from last 4 days I am not able to find my precious comb and I guess it’s time to move on. I am going to Mangalore again next week so maybe this time I will have to pick up another comb to continue the legacy...

Always Attack Your Opponents Strength

I am watching a old movie "Ready to Rumble", yeah I am a big time wrestling fan and I was waiting to watch this movie on WB. However back to the point, there is the dialogue in the movie, "Always attack the mans Strength. Yeah the action is right there in the middle. No one expects you to attack you at your strongest point, that’s where you can defeat them." Loved this line. Most of us aim to go for our opponents weaknesses. In business we like to see what’s the weak points of our competitors and we try to attack him on those points. We rarely dare to compete with our competition at the point where they are the strongest. But I guess that’s where the fun is. Raising your standard and making yourself so good that you can defeat your opponent at their own game. That would be really satisfying, defending your competition by taking him on there strength. Success would never taste sweeter.

I am gonna try and follow that. I am going to Attack the Strength... but for time being the break is almost over so back to my movie.

Ishq Bector Strikes Back

Ishq Bectar was one of the most charming contestant on the new reality show "Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao" and one of my favorite among all the ten celebrities. Ishq was the first contestant to be eliminated from the latest Junglee Reality show of Sony TV, which is based on the popular British show "I am a celebrity, Get me out of here". Ishq was one guy on the show who never fought with anyone (Fiza listening?) or tried to act smart with others. He used to just silently mind his own business, which might be one of the main reasons for his such an early exit. But he was very good in the Jungle Challenge task he performed. He was the only contestant to remain totally calm during the task (which involved getting inside a coffins with all kind of reptiles). Forget staying calm, he created a song "Chal be Shane Task Kar" while inside the coffin which was very catchy.

However Ishq is all set to unleash his shaanpatti with his latest release on you tube. Yes he has recently uploaded the music video of his song "Chal Be Shaane" on you tube. I assure you if you hear this song once you will just love it. The lyrics of the song are quite simple describing the extremity of his Jungle expereince. Ishq is proving to be our very own desi Eminem with even taking the digs on his fellow celebrity including the latest arrival Nigar Khan in the show.

And the best part is the Video itself of the song. Ishq is everywhere in this video from being a news reporter to a jungle reported and most hilarious a sexy item girl. Check out that video below and enjoy.

Ishq is also very keen to get back into the jungle as he urges his fans to vote him as an wild card entrant. I sure hope this cool dude gets back into the jungle as I want to see more of his antics. Am I Social? Maybe

Since I was a kid, I had always had this feeling of being someone out of the circle. It was not like I was isolated or different; It’s just that I had always lacked any kind of social skills. No matter how much I try, I would always end up feeling awkward whenever it came to socializing formally. As I look back on my life till now, I do had loads of friends, and many of them were my very close friends. Actually I had many best friends in my life during my different phases. With some I was for very long time and with some it was just a small companionship, but a strong one though. But in the end I had always been unable to stay in touch with all these friends. It was again my total lack of social skills and failure to try and initiate a communication. Then came the Web 2.0 era and the dawn of Orkut and Facebook, which is rapidly becoming very essential part of this generation. These Social Networking sites have given me the opportunity to get in touch with all my long lost friends with a click of mouse. Leaving a scrap or writing on their wall is proving to be very effective way to get in touch with them. It’s only with help of these social networking sites that I am able to wish "Happy Birthday" to even my primary school classmate whom I haven’t met for last 15 years. These sites have really given us the power to reconnect with the people of our past and be in constant touch with our current friends. It has empowered our generation to be in constant limelight of our friends. When you meet a kid from your high school with whom you hardly talked, on Orkut after a decade through your common network, you do realize that he is he was not that bad a person back than after all. This can prove to be a good healing tool for people. It enables every one of us in understanding the joy of sharing and being in touch. As for me I hope it enables me to get in touch with my buddies more regularly (fingers crossed)....

Dubai Day 02 & 03: Of Pistols and Paints

We woke up pretty early today as we wanted to watch Coroline at 10 am at Festival city. It looked like a good movie, though I slept through most of it. Priya loved it and so did Anuj. After the movie we went for lunch at Caesar’s, an excellent Indian restaurant. The view of Sharjah Corniche from the restaurant is amazing. So after a heavy lunch we headed home for a nice afternoon nap. Later in the evening we headed for Sharjah Golf and Shooting club. This place is amazing, especially its open lounge overlooking the golf course. Loved this place.

This is where we were looking forward to play paintball for the very first time. Indeed it's one of the most interesting things I have ever seen. Paintball is an actual combat style game which is played between two teams. Guns with ammunition consisting of paint balls are used for it. It’s an excellent team building activity. I simply loved the Paintball.

After the Paintball we headed for shooting range. For the first time in my life I fired an actual 0.9 MM pistol. Yes a real one. I tried my hands on Beretta and Czech. The recoil of Beretta for first time was hand numbing. Never expected a real gun to recoil so hard.

Day 03 was more of a rest day. With nothing much to do me and Priya headed for Ansar Mall right next to our house and I bought myself a pair of sunglasses as its absolutely essential in Dubai. Later we had lunch with one of Anuj’s Business Associate at Caesar’s and slept the rest of the day off on the Air Bed.

Destination Dubai - Day 01

Finally after 2 and half years of Marriage and getting two visas (USA and Australia) Rejected today me and Priya finally managed to go on a vacation out of India. Have come to Dubai to visit my brother. He has already chalked out a nice plan for the 15 days we are here.

Arrived at Dubai Airport morning 10.30, the Emirates flight was actually half an hour earlier than its scheduled arrival. Got our immigration checked, though the immigration girl was pretty grumpy and she was busy talking to her Boy Friend on her hands free while working. Met up with Anuj and we headed for his home in Al Nadah, Sharjah. Loved the Dubai city. Loved watching almost all brands of Car in the world.

In the afternoon we decided to celebrate Sonia’s birthday via video conference as she is still in India. Loved the Chocolate Mousse cake from the bakery near our house. Saw world’s biggest and yummiest Strawberries. Later we headed to for the “Central Perk” Café at Jumeriah. Its indeed was a great experience. As per a trivia thrown in by Anuj this café chain is actually owned by the Guy who played Gunther in the Original “Friends”. The café looks exactly like the set of central perk in the tv, Especially the entrance. Had a coffee and sandwich on the couch like the “F.R.I.E.N.D.S.”.

Later we decided to head out to Jumeriah Beach and had a couple of mandatory tourist style pictures taken near the Burj – Al – Arab. Than we headed for the Barasti Bar on the beach and chilled out a bit. There I saw my dream bike Harley Davidson V-Rod for the first time.

So had a pretty exciting first day in Dubai, still we are planning to watch “Angels and Demons” at Midnight.

Just purchased the dev d music cd today morning and thats what I had been listening in my car for whole day. Man thats one great album. All the songs in Album rocks.

While Aankh Micholi, Dev chanda theme & dil mein jaagi are likeable, one of the best tracks of the album are the Duniya & saali Khushi. Both the tracks have most amazing lyrics. Totally earthy feeling to it.

For a month now I was awaiting the release of this music album as after seeing the promos was totally in love with the super duper hit song Emosanal Atyachaar. The bass band song is total hit and will be one of the best tracks of the year.

But boy after buying the cd, I realized that emosanal atyachaar is indeed not the best track of the album. Now comes the big daddy, the one track which made me come online and write all this about this album is the best track of the album: Atyachaar - Rock Version. And boy can it rock. It rocks big big time. Heard the track once and simple fell in love with it. Its total hardcore rock. Guys just listen to it now, you will know what i mean.

Salman Khan Starts Blogging too!!!

Seems lately all the top stars of bollywood are being bitten by the blogging bug. After Big B Amitabh Bachhan and Amirk Khan, Sallu Bhai too has started blogging. Though till now unlike the other superstars Salman has refrained from any controversial or personal remarks on anyone. Salman's blog is mostly centered on his new T.V. Show "Dus Ka Dum". Salman in his blog shares how the idea of appearing in the TV show made him nervous initially, how was the rehearsals done for the show and also he explains the format of the show.

Salman writes "In the next few sessions, my brother Sohail, sisters Alvira and Arpita, participated as contestants. I was very happy that director David Dhawan too liked the format and agreed that most questions should be hilarious and not necessarily Intelligent. My friend producer Sajid Nadiadwala and Director Anil Sharma too gave their inputs. Soon the rehearsal hall became a club where all my friends visited each night, got together and had a great time playing 10 ka Dum with me! The program begins with two contestants who play against each other and the winner continues to play with me. Unlike other shows contestants here are given an unlimited time to answer the question. This meant that I have to keep the tempo going; I have to keep the viewers entertained. But then that was never a problem for me. Plus the questions are so cool; they reflect common behavioral patterns of common people. As a star of the masses I have always admired and connected with common people. I believe they are and will always be the fountainhead of national energy"

Though in his latest post Salman did take a little pot shot at the other quiz shows and highlighted how his show will be fun and full of energy. Salman Writes "I rehearsed sitting for a while but soon realized that the whole thing sounded fake and lacked punch. It’s like stale soda; some shows done with anchor and contestant sitting on chairs. The energetic format of 10 Ka Dum does not permit you to sit like a corporate head on a chair addressing your subordinates. The very spirit of informality is lost. So in spite of the excruciating pain I got up from the chair. A very high energy level is necessary for this DUM show…and I wanted to give it all and enjoy it."

Thus it seems Salman Khan is all set to give Shahrukh's Panchvi Paas a run for its money.

Khali a bollywood star now

Yesterday (May 16) was a big day for Khali, mainly for two reasons, one being the announcement of his film Kushti and secondly for receiving an IFDB (International Federation Diploma in Body Building) award. Khali, very excited about his career in Bollywood says, "I had been flooded by many offers before but due to constant warnings about the corruption in bollywood I withheld myself from signing films." He goes on to add, "However, after meeting Rajeev Kumar and Rajpal Yadav, all my fears vanished and I had a wonderful time working with them. Kushti is a musical film and I hope my Indian audiences watch and at the same time like it."

The Movie Kushti (which means Wrestling in hindi) is directed by Rajeev Kumar and also stars Rajpal Yadav, Asrani, Nargis and Manoj Joshi. Shedding some light on the storyline Rajpal informs, "The story set in a village revolves around a postman played by me who is trying to get his gal (Nargis). Unfortunately, for him, her father is a wrestler and wants his daughter to marry one too, which happens to be Khali. Now in order to marry Nargis I have to fight Khali and defeat him."

Kushti is in its post-production period and is expected to release this year.

Aamir Khan has a dog called Shahrukh

"Shah Rukh is licking my feet and I am feeding him biscuits every now and then. What more can I ask for?" Yes these are the words of Aamir Khan in his latest post on his blog.

However he further adds " Now, before you jump to any conclusions let me add that Shah Rukh is the name of our dog. And before you jump to any further conclusions let me add that I had nothing to do with naming him. In fact Shah Rukh is the dog of the caretakers of our house. When I bought this house it came with the caretakers and their dog! Apparently Shah Rukh (the actor) was shooting for a commercial in this house a few years ago, and that very day the caretakers bought a pup…, and named him Shah Rukh. What are the chances of me buying a house which comes with a dog called Shah Rukh!!!

The WWE superstar "The Great Khali" had returned to his country India for a short vacation last week. Ever since the Khali has arrived in India, he is all over in each and over national news channel. Almost all the celebrities of India are making a bee line to meet this Giant from WWE.

However the Greatest achievement for Khali was that even the President of India Smt. Pratibha Patil met with khali at the Presidential House. This was a great achievement for a small time labourer and later a punjab police constable.

The Hotel where the Khali is staying is 24 hours flooded by his fans to catch a glimpse of their favorite Giant. Even the biggest sport celebrity of India, Sachin Tendulker who is treated as god of cricket in India paid a personal visit to India. Even the Biggest Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan is planning to meet up with Khali.

Khali has also been Honored in his home state of Himachal Pradesh. He has also been promoted by the Punjab police to Sub Inspector post as and when he resumes his service with them. Khali has also had been rumoured to be offered many bollywood movies and reportedly he has already signed a movie deal for one and a half crore rupees.

Lately any news channel you tune into in india at prime time, they will have atleast one report of Khali in there broadcast. Khali also said to his interview with Zee News that he was overwhelmed by the response and love people have shown in India and seeing his and wwe popularity in India he would talk to people in WWE to have a tour of India in near Future. Mumbai Indians captain Harbhajan Singh and Kings XI paceman S Sreesanth were late on Friday night involved in a bitter row, following which the fast bowler was seen crying bitterly on the ground at the end of their IPL match here.

Harbhajan allegedly slapped Sreesanth after the paceman said something to Harbhajan which offended the off-spinner.

The off-spinner however had a long chat with Sreesanth in the dressing room of the Punjab team and is even believed to have apologised for his behaviour.

yess... we have finally done it... all the talk of global warming and other blah blah has finally have something substantial... A big iceberg is about to break off from Antarctica.

The iceberg is located on the southern portion of the peninsula of Wilkins Ice Shelf, one of the biggest ice shelves in Antarctica that has been recently threatened.

A glaciologist who was watching the satellites images of Wilkins ice shelf saw a piece of the shelf about 25 miles by 1.5 miles was breaking off. This poses a danger because now the rest of Wilkins ice shelf is at the risk of collapsing. Wilkins Ice shelf is about the size of Northern Ireland!

The problem with icebergs breaking off is sea level rises. If all land ice melted, sea level would rise up to 230 feet.

Religion was created to bind together the group of people and give them a particualr image. Ancient humans were pretty wild and a scattered race. With abscence of nations and boundaries, we hardly had any particular identity to separate a group from other. We hardly had anything to be afraid of, other then wild animals and natural disasters. The leaders didnt had any one thing through which they could lead the hordes and hordes of humans. Thus Religion was invented, to bring together the flocks of humans, like goats they were showed the fear of almighty and ask to do certain things in certain manner in process giving them individuality and laying down rules and ways through which they should live there life. All the status and power was vested in the religious leader. May it be christianity, Hinduism, Islam, every where people were asked to follow, be good and do good things if they want go to heaven.

I for one dont belong to any religion. I Love being religion less and just be a Human.... like it that way

A Week of Miracles

The last week gone by, can be put down in history as the week of Miracales, or more appropiately the week of Mass Hysteria. On Friday evening suddenly the people of Mumbai realized that the sea water near the Mahim Creak has got sweet, resulting into people beliving it as some kinda miracle created by the Saint of the Mosque nearby. Believing the Sweet water in the Sea to be Holy water sent to them by the almighty to drink and be cured of all there diseases and problems, people flocked at the sea beach to drink and carry the sea water in bottles and containers.

On Saturday news came up of a young girl fasting in a village near Agra for 6 days to appease God and have rains in the area. Villagers got hysterical and started praying the little girl as the avtaar of a Godess herself.

And the week closed with a bang on sunday night with almost all kind of hindu God and Godess drinking milk in spoon from the devotess all over India. The News Broke out in Barely and spread like wild fire all over India.

Looking at these phenomenon, people are saying it is god's Miracle, its something beyond the explanation of science. But this whole week was a classic example of Mass Hysteria. Our mind is the most powerful force in the world. What we call God is actually our mind. Nobody is ready to look upto the fact that due to very heavy rain falls, the huge amount of sea water had been collected in the creak, niether anybody looked at the fact that the girl fasting was at the brink of her life, and still there has been no rains, Nor anybody was ready to notice all the milk they are feeding to the God's idols is bieng collected and wasted on the floor.

The masses are always in need of a Miracle, and when they can find anything remotely like a Miracle they just hang on to it dearly. Just wished that the people drinking all that polluted seawater dont fall prey to some epidemic. The people feeding (wasting) litres of milk to Gods, dont wanna give even a single litre to orphans or needy.

We love to belive on someone else, but dont wanna believe in ourself... The only people benefitting from these mircales are the priests and the News Channel... Miracle - Bileve it or Not

Through out my life i have been utterly fascinated by Lions & Tigers, but today I came to know about a high breed of these spices called as Ligers...

Long ago, outside the old city of Singapore, which was considered to be the city of Lions, there was reported to be giant brown beasts. This was before the Asiatic lion was reduced to such low numbers that their are now less than 200 left in the Gir forest. This huge animal might just be an explanation for this myth, for he is neither a lion nor a tiger, but he is about the size of both of them combined. The liger is the world's largest big cat. An average male liger weighs over 900 pounds and standing almost 12 feet tall.

The reason that they are called a liger is because the father was a lion and the mother was a tiger. If the situation was reversed and the mother was a lion and the father was a tiger, he would be called a tigon, and would be a dwarf instead of a giant. A fully grown tigon is usually less that 350lbs. Ligers are not sterile, and they can reproduce. If a liger were to reproduce with a tiger, it would be called a titi, and if it were to reproduce with a lion, it would be call a lili.

Liger is the accidental result of two enormous big cats living close together at the Institute of Greatly Endangered and Rare Species, in Miami, Florida, and already dwarfs both his parents. "Ligers are not something we planned on having," said institute owner Dr Bhagavan Antle. "We have lions and tigers living together in large enclosures and at first we had no idea how well one of the lion boys was getting along with a tiger girl, then lo and behold we had a liger."

“A Night in the Girls Hostel”

It was a moonless night and was very dark...Ajay got a
call from his friend saying that she had a problem
with her health and that she wanted medicines. So Ajay
along with his friend Nishanth went to the
girls’ hostel to deliver the medicines to his
friend.

They risked their career for their friend for they
knew perfectly well that if they were ever found
around the girls’ hostel...they would have to
face hell. So with fear Ajay and Nishanth had their
hearts in their mouth and reached the Hostel gates. As
they reached the gates...they were warmly welcomed by
two of the hostel girls. They guys were confused. They
had no trace of what was happening. As it was very
dark they couldn’t see anybody properly.

The guys continued to follow the girls. The four
of them finally reached a place where they could
pretty much see each other.....and bang!! the girls
started to scream and yell all of a sudden. Ajay and
Nishanth were still confused. They were wondering as
to what’s going on.

The girls had mistaken the guys for their boy
friends, and they too were pretty confused about what
was happening and they began to say that they would
complain against the guys and to add more spice to the
situation....their boy friends arrived. The situation
was a cocktail of panic, surprise, fear and confusion.
Now the girls also had their boy friends on their
side. It was now four against two.

The four of them were talking about complaining
against Ajay and Nishanth. Both Ajay and Nishanth
tried to explain the situation telling that they had
been to the hostel just to deliver the medicines...but
they were not ready to agree and still held on to what
they were saying earlier.

It was now time for Ajay and Nishanth to use
their weapon. They just reminded the for of them the
fact that the girls were waiting for their boy friends
and were guiding them into the hostel thinking they
were their boy friends and said that what do their boy
friends have to do in the hostel at mid-night. The
four of them had now nothing to say and had to accept
their defeat. This is were the situation got under
control.....and this is exactly what you call......

Everyone loves to be nostalgic, and I for one get really nostalgic, today while on one of the forums came across a song which had become a craze back in my school days. Chaddi Pahen ke phool khila hai.... (Chuckles), now i bet you get the drift, its the Jungle Book. Back in the days of Doordarshan, kids didn't had the luxory of bunch of dedicated 24 hour cartoon channels, and we had to make do with weekely dose of cartoons on sunday morning at 10 am. Many a series were telecasted back then but one which got everybody hooked up was The Jungle Book. I had scene the Jungle Book Movie and had a paper back kiddie version of the Kipling's classic, But seeing it episode wise week after week was like a cult following. Week after week, just loved the way story unflurred. It maybe Kipling's magical writing that made The Jungle Book so popular world over, but in India, the credit for it huge success also goes to its tittle track. It became very popular and for the first time, even the grownups knew or used to mouth a track of a cartoon series, it was just phenomenal. Here is a tribute to that ever green track....

Growing Old or Progressing?? - Executive Banjara

I have observed that an overly common event in most peoples lives, the recent days weeks or even years of life end up being the same. Get in the routine, feel good, get comfortable... Get stuck. And its not even that most people stop maturing in a way that they would even recognize, but more that people disallow themselves the opportunity to change their emotional, societal or even intellectual maturity. In a world where really we have power over so little why do people deny themselves "inner growth" for lack of a better term.

To drive home my point here is something from many of the forwards circulating the internet.
'A veteran school teacher was certain she would get the upcoming promotion to Vice-Principal since she had greater seniority than the other teachers. When the appointment went to a teacher with less experience she was outraged. "How can you do this to me. I've been teaching school for twenty years" she lamented to the School Board Chairman. With gentle wisdom he responded, "Dear lady, you haven't been teaching twenty years. You've taught one year twenty times." '

I found this a little disturbing, I know it was intended to be humorous but I couldn't help but think how true this is for so many people. We have no control over chronological age, and only minimal control over intellectual and physiological age; however, we can choose our social and emotional age. Learning social skills and developing emotional maturity are choices afforded to every person. And yet so many people choose not to... Why? I really am not sure, perhaps everyone is working so diligently on whatever it is they do and then wonder why they don't get the breaks they should or why life turned out this way and never stop to think of an honest answer because its so much easier to say -well, life is hard- comfort and security are great things and really it works as a life plan! And being reckless and uninhibited and "living life to the fullest" day after day can really be great things as well, very freeing and at the same time can cause the same stunt as the more domesticated life. So I guess there would have to be a balance... Till i finished my college Last Feb i had the life of bieck reckless careless and litreally roaming around the country enjoying every think a biker can. But for last few months I am stuck within the world of office, work, deadlines & Schedule... all this is dragging me to that dreaded ROUTINE... whose vicious circle I always wanted to escape. But at night, Rolling in bed, thought does creeps in my mind, am I actually having a growth or not... I have yet to see it. But I suppose I'm young there is still time!... I am trying to balance the Banjara and the Executive and hope to live a life of Dr. Jekkeyell in time to come... cause whatever happens the Banjara in me would always want to travel...

The rhythm and rhyme balances with time, yet so little balance I seems to be find in mine. I feel this strong pull of polarity, It seems whereever I go its Wrong. I try to right the wrong and I wrong the right,I try to create peace, exactly there is my fight. World is surely a strange place, Its on such a fast pace, I wonder where will i find that Peaceful Shrine...

The Ray of Light - Diwali time thoughts...

For a while now, I have been intrigued by this ray of light, the great indian festial of lights called diwali. Last few years, living a student life, diwali had been basically a freak out evening with all the friends on campus and nothing special, The transitions in the weather and the arrival of the cold always signaedl unique feelings, that reminded us of special times at home. My last two diwali I was on a ride and so never really noticed when it came and went by, But this diwali I have to give it to the festive season, even I am feeling the ray of light. Bieng home after many a years on a festival does makes up for a good change, but rite now, i m looking forward for the four days after the Diwali going back on the road in my 'Night Crawler'.

The earliest memory of spending a Diwali I have is of the gathering of our whole joint family together and bursting cracker one by one, each of the kid gettings its turn, and the honours for the fancy crackers bieng reserved for the elders. Later on we graduated to bursting characters all by own, and spending the whole Diwali night, Staying awake with a whole bunch of nieghbourhood kids, blowing off doors and mail boxes of the people with 'Sutli' bombs. Of my college days, the only diwali which was special was in my first year in Hyderabad, infact it was the last diwali I actually ever celebrated. Why special, cause well i was able to clear the air with Nishant after a long tiff. Last twoD iwalis were on the Road, 2003 I was on my ride to Yellagiri Hills, and celebrating it with Mad Bulls and RTMC guys. Still remember bursting the crackers on the hill top in yellagiri, and last Diwali I was in Tadoba with G.R., Amber & Anand, celebrating it with tiger tales and tribal food.

Those memories are strong, and binds me to a time and place that does not exist anymore, and yet one which is much more real in a way than the present.

Quest for my lost side...

On similar lines, it feels that some events occurred ages back, though they are just a few weeks/months old.
Mostly those in the former category were happy ones and those in the latter the disturbing and not-so-happy ones.
Perhaps there is no mystery in this mysterious feeling. It may be the inherent tendency of us humans to shroud the unpleasant and cherish the pleasant. Forgetfulness is not entirely useless.

I just woke up today, realizing i wasnt sleeping at all. It was a
journey through my thought which created a halucination and made me
feel away in a different world.

I dunno what is my Life? At one moment of time i feel like I am the
luckiest person to have ever walked the face of earth, and next moment
i feel lower than a snake belly, I am not sure am i really living a
life, or I am just on journey called life, I meet so many fantastic
people, my Humsafars, but as an as i move ahead, those Humsafar reach
there destination or take some different route, and I am again left
all by myself to move on...

Seduction of the Dark

I had just arrived in delhi, my new karmo bhoomi, My Mystique is miles away from me in Hyderabad. Was already missing her, and wanted a transportation, so decided to go and rent a Bullet from Karol Bagh, so went there along with Saurabh. There while talking about the renting of Bulls and all that jazz spoted couple of Yamaha RD 350s (fondly known as Yamraj) and my age old odyssey came alive. I asked the shop guy for a test ride. Sat on the Bike, one kick start, and the sound of that bike sent millions of bells ringing in my whole body. Put the bike in the first Gear and wooah, this bike flys..... what a power, what a torque, was experiencing raw speed, even on the crowded streets of Karol Bagh that babe crossed 80 in few seconds could only manage to go to 4th gear of her mean 6 cogs. Came back to the shop. Asked the shop keeper if she is for sale and yes it was. Now gonna ponder over the weekend some way to gather enough cash to make her mine.

Its a love, its a love at first ride, or is it a seduction, seduction of that darkness mistress, Queen of speed on Indian Roads.... whatever it is, i know only this, that Yamah RD 350 is what i want it is.

Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Ghum (The Tadoba Ride Story)

It was a diwali + Eid weekend, a stretched extended weekend, and so it was sure that me GR, and Anand gonna spend it on road only, and in the excitement, our Amber also joined in from the banglore, and we set off for one crazy ride with loads of actions, drama, comedy and tragedy….

A Night before the Day:
A night before the day we were suppose to start our ride, Amber was supposed to reach Hyderabad from Banglore, along with Samarth, a fellow 60kph member. I was expecting Amber to be in Hyderabad by 2 am, as he had started from Banglore by 4.00 pm, and so I decided not to sleep off early, cause if I sleep off I wont be able to wake up in mid of night and go and get amber to rest at my place. So spent the night packing and thinking where exactly we are gonna go. This was one crazy ride, cause even after a day on the road we never knew where we are headed, we initially had Kanha, Pench and Tadoba in the mind but none of the places accommodation and contacts were working out, and to see a wild life sanctuary properly, it seemed we needed it. And suddenly on the last day, even the plans for going to Araku were cropping up, but in the end we decided that where ever we go, we heading to some Tiger Reserve only. So with the packing done, I started waited for Amber’s call, and it was 3 am still he didn’t called, which made me lil anxious, and I never knew when I fell asleep, only to be woken up by the ambers call at 4.30 am, went out and got him home, and we both slept off very soon, only to be woken up at 6.30 am by Anand’s Call.

Day – 1
On the Road Atlast:
After a hiatous of around 2 months I was back on the highway, and it took me few mins only to clean of the cobwebs and come into highway mode. Me and Amber, had started a bit late, as we had some sleep to catch up and had to cross the whole city to reach the Medchal highway, so Anand and GR were riding ahead and were waiting for us at breakfast at the Fauji Dhaba, so soon we reached there and gobbled up some aloo paranthas and dahi. So finally we decided here at this point to head to Tadoba, and GR has arranged some accommodation for the night at the Adilabad Forest Rest House. So we had only 300 kms to cover on day 1, which we thought wasn’t much. As anand’s bike was in running in so he started ahead while we finished our break fast, and we soon catched up with him, and had a real smooth and gr8 ride. The highway from Hyderabad to Adilabad is simply awesome.

Kick Off:
As we were approaching Nirmal, there was a small fort just outside that city, so everybody got camera happy there, and got thinking, either the king of Nirmal was quite fatichar to have such a small fort, or as amber said, this must be one of the forts he must have bought out to his girl friend ;) As we started from here something strange happened to my bike, while running, suddenly I feel the kick going down, and as I looked down, the whole kick was just dangling lifelessly, stopped at a dhaba at Nirmal and tried to figure out the problem, Amber got a mechanic from the Nirmal, and it turned out to be that the Spring of my kick has broken, alas, a strange place to have a strange break down, tried to fine the spring at Nirmal but couldn’t, so we decided to just to have our lunch there and push off to Adilabad.

Dhakkaa Lagao:
So with the kick gone, the only way to start the bike was to push it and put it in first gear and start up, so we asked amber to sit on the bike and do that, while three of us push, and this was the case for next whole day, whenever my bike used to stop we hafta push, my bike was the full loaded with our luggage and spares and sleeping bags and tent, so zor laga ke haisha….. Me and Amber pushed off to Adilabad full throttle while GR and Anand came slower enjoying the amazing ghats and taking some good shots. At adilabad, I tried to hunt for that Spring but it turned out to be, that there was only one Bullet in the whole of Adilabad, and whenever some problem happened to it, they took it to Hyderabad, so now I was stick with no other choice but just to stick to Dhakkaa Start.

Happy Diwali:
Day one of the ride was the Diwali day, and my third diwali on the road in the row, so it was feeling great. We all head to restaurant to enjoy a hearty dinner. At the restaurant, suddenly Amber remembers to pay his Reliance phone bill, and tries to go and fill it there at a Reliance Web World. This was the most hilarious thing we all had scene, this guy coming all the way 950 kms to pay the phone bill, and for that too he got late, as the web world was closed. We just laughed our way to glory and enjoyed rest of the evening, talking about bikes, roads, engine breaking, counter steering and sigma speedos.

Day 1 Way Points: Hyderabad – Medchal – Nirmal – AdilabadDistance covered: 300 kms

Day – 2:
Chale Chalo:
Finally we had freezed upon heading to Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR), and so we decided to head for Chandrapur Which was the District head quarter for TATR and all the permissions was to be taken from that place only. We decided to avoid the higway, and take a interior bus route to the Chandrapur, and our decision surely turned out to be real good, as it was a lovely route with real good scenery, complete with some patches of bad road. We stopped for our break fast at Bela, a small village, and as we parked our bikes, hoardes of villagers gathered around to have a look at the bikes, and the four strange guy who were riding… everybody has this curious look in there eyes with a familiar question to Amber: WHAT IS YOUR OBJECTIVE? Well after the breakfast the real Tamasha started, when it was time to start my bike, with around 200 villagers present there, we were pushing and trying to start my bike and it was as hilarious as embrassing, but luckily, my bike got started in just one push and we were on our way to Chandrapur. Now me and GR, decided to push off ahead to Ballarpur, and try to get my bike fixed, as anand and amber were gonna come little slower due to the photo stops. So me and G.R. got engaged in a real fun ripping session, on the interior roads of Maharashtra and in no time we were able to reach bellarpur and I was even able to find the Spring for my kick, but as I got the kick fixed, still the kick wouldn’t go all the way, as it turned out that the whole kick assembly had gone bonkers, but somehow now it was in condition that with few adjustments I could start up my bike with the kick. Soon Anand and Amber caught up with us, and we headed for Chandrapur.

Raat ki Baat:
Now we tried to fix up some accommodation in the Moharli, the last check point till which we were allowed to take our bikes, after which the national park area started and the two wheelers were not allowed inside. This Moharli place was real good too, quite inside the jungle already. But to stay at the forest guest house we couldn’t get forest officers permission and the only MTDC resort available there was too costly for our budget. 850 Rs for double room, so we were considering the thought of going back to chandrapur and staying in some lodge, but we didn’t wanted to stay in the city, so we sent anand on a mission to find an accommodation somewhere at moharli only, and after 45 mins anand came back victorious managing an accommodation in a forest hut, just near the check post. Found a family of elephants there which were used for the jungle safari, and the time we reached there it was there feeding time, so were able to watch the elephants enjoying there food from real close quarters. In the dinner Anand was in mood to have some local food, so we managed to convince a villager to cook some dinner for us. With no Mobile phone signals in that area, we were left with only one choice, but to use the only STD PCO booth in that area, and by far that was the strangest phone booth I have ever seen, in the living room of some villager, and the funniest thing about that phone was that u could only call to any mobile number, you couldn’t call to any land line, or reliance or bsnl from that phone. So after dinner, we decided to sleep outside in our sleeping bags and enjoy the fresh air of jungle, but soon that idea was spoilt by the check post guard who warned us not to sleep outside, as there was a tiger on the prowl, who has killed a person just half a kilometer away from where we were a week ago. Also the guard told us that no villagers sleep outside there house as the bears and tigers used to roam that area in the night and it was quite risky, so anand cajoaled and forced me to go and sleep inside, but as it was quite stuffy in the hut, and with so many mosquitoes I decided to take a risk and so me and amber slept outside the hut in our tent. Before we both slept off, amber has some crazy idea to escape in case some tiger or bear attacked our tent. He said he has a lighter with him, and in case of an attack he will burn off the tent and the sleeping bag and scare away the animal. And I was just trying to look for that lighter, in order to save my tent. Soon we all slept off hoping for a great day ahead.

Waypoint for Day 2: Adilabad – Jainath – Bela – Bellarpur – Chandrapur – Moharli – TadobaDistance covered: 160 kms

Day 3:
The Call of the Wild:
This was the most exciting day as we were to get into the Tadoba tiger reserve and enjoy the wildlife. As two wheelers were not allowed inside the park area, so we had to hire a sumo taxi for this day. The Tadoba Tiger is spread over in the area of 635 sq kms and the vehicles are allowed inside the forest from the morning 6am to 11.00 pm and than in the evening 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm. Our morning session was pretty good, with lots of sightings of spotted deers, Sambhars, crocodiles, wild boars, some bird eating spiders and also were able to catch a glimpse of the very shy barking deer. But our real interest was the Tiger and the Bison. But couldn’t have a dekho of it in the morning session, but able to get loads of gyan on the jungles and trees and animals. During the break we had a look at a stuffed tiger at the forest check post, which was declared man – eater in 1996 and was killed by 10 bullet shots, and took two nights to kill that fellow. Man that was a huge tiger, and it had managed to kill three man and eaten one of it, before the forest gaurds and police commandos gunned the big guy down. The afternoon session was a real let down for us, with very few animal sightings and the tiger was at its elusive best, got the news of some family able to see a tigress with its cub and some other group able to sight a leopard, but we didn’t got anything, and so most of us were drowsy and soon we headed back for Moharli to call it a day. The Tiger Hunt is still on…

Is Raat ki Subah Nahin:
Back to our base camp Moharli, we all decided to ride back to hyderabad whole night long, as it was hardly 430 kms from there, and we wanted to have half a day to take rest and freshen up and the major cause of worry was the amber, who has to yet ride back all the way to Banglore on Monday itself and report to office on Tuesday. So we decided to ride whole night long, but little did we knew that we were in for a really really long night. On our way back we decided to take another route via asifabad and karimnagar, and so we started from Moharli at around 7.30 pm and headed towards asifabad, after a brief fuel stop at chandrapur. We reached asifabad at around 10.30 pm, which was just 80 kms from Mancharial, we all had decided to stick in the group at least for the night, and as anand’s bike was in running in, we were just averaging 24 kmph, and that was real real real boring. We had a dinner at Asifabad, and than again started for Mancharial, again on our snail pace, but around 12.45 am the monotonus of that pace and nothing much happening caught up with me, and I dozed off while riding, only to be woken up next second by rumbling of a truck. I decided I m not gonna ride this way, it wasn’t safe, so I told the group either we stop or I go on my pace. As this highway is quite a remote one in the night with very little traffice, we couldn’t find any dhaba to sleep, so we decided to carry on till mancharial, where anand was sure to find a dhaba to sleep, but this time, I just went ahead of the group on my own pace in order to kill the monotony and avoid getting sleepy again. The adrenaline pumping up, and the gushing of the wind in my face freshened me up and was able to ride till mancharial with no problem. Waited for the others to catch up at chai ki kitli, and than we started to look out for a dhaba to crash out, but we couldn’t find any and so we decided to carry on, after around 20 kms, we found a big industrial junction with some chai shops and one really big big big HP petrol pump with all kinda facility and store, and nice lawn on side, so we all decided to sleep on that lawn on the side of the highway under the starry sky, and get the lullaby by the passing trucks, that was quite an experience, and soon all of us were sleeping happinly, though GR couldn’t sleep for long. By 5.00 am all of us woke up again and hit the road, as it was day break and we were just 230 kms from Hyderabad, we decided to just zoom towards hyderabad and catch a breakfast at secunderabad as I was pretty confident that from here anand can manage back any how in his running in speed. However anand stayed in front of us all the way till Karimnagar, an added advantage and assurance. From Mancharial to Shameerpet (180 kms) it was just crazy crazy ripping session. GR, Me and Amber all of us got engaged in some crazy riding and most of the time was just zooming past the scenery, but in order to push my bike to extreme, I had the break down just 50 kms before Hyderabad. Due to loads and loads of luggage, my bike wasnt touching 120, which got me quite upset and i was hell bent upon touch the 120 mark, and finally after crossing siddipet was able to do it on long straight stretches, now again i wanted to have more speed, so did the same thing which i did last week, took my bike to 4th from 5th at 120 and the result was again the same, one of the tappet came out again. Now GR rode back to the village we just left behind and came back with a real huge rope, and than started a towing session. Amber’s jimmy pulled my Mystique for around 50 kms to hyderabad. This was surely a novel experience, though I had a similar one during my Gujarat ride, when mandeep came to the rescue in the tata sumo. The fun part of this towing was, we were still averaging 70 kmph while being towed, that was something awesome, though we nearly avoided a fall and finally were able to tow my bike to vikram puri, where dj’s mechanic was able to fix back my tappets, and I rode back home, bruised, tired, thinking but happy.
